PETRU PONI INSTITUTE OF MACROMOLECULAR CHEMISTRY, IASI, RoMANIA

Dr. Marcela Mihai is the Scientific Director of the Petru Poni Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry (ICMPP), Iasi, Romania and a member of its Scientific Council since 2015.
Since 2016 she acts as the Head of the Functional Polymers Laboratory within ICMPP, a laboratory highly recognized for its contributions in the synthesis, characterization, and applications of polyelectrolytes and polyelectrolyte complexes, as well as for polymeric surface modification. One of the main research topics of the laboratory is related to linear/cross-linked ionic polymers – synthesis, characterizations, application; complex multicomponent systems based on natural and synthetic polyelectrolytes.
Since 2004 Dr. Mihai has been a member and since 2021 the General Secretary of the Romanian Chemical Society, and the Romanian representative at European Polymer Federation (since 2024).
Dr. Mihai’s research portfolio includes: 4 edited books, co-author of a book, 7 book chapters, more than 85 articles published in international peer-reviewed journals; more than 120 presentations at various scientific events, of which five lectures by invitation in visited institutes, and more than 25 invited/plenary/keynote lectures. Additionally she has authored 4 national patent applications (two awarded, two pending). In research management she has been active as group leader (at ICMPP and other visited institutions), as projects leader and a member in the research team of more than 25 European and national projects. She has acted as the leader of 3 European and 4 national research projects.
Dr. Mihai has been habilitated as PhD supervisor in Chemistry in 2016 and , she is a a member of SCOSAAR. She coordinated 2 finalized PhD theses and currently she coordinates 4 PhD students for which she is a training tutor which includes activity coordination, periodic and final evaluatio for students for their practical training at ICMPP;
Dr. Marcela Mihai has been a organizer of national (5) and international (10) scientific meetings.
In 2012 she has been awarded the “Costin D. Nenitzescu” Prize of the Romanian Academy for a group of research papers papers entitled “Composite materials based on calcium carbonate and pH-sensitive polyelectrolytes”.
